Dell T5810 Workstation

Haha, I kid. But seriously, I should be on here more often.

Well, I’ve been busy learning about Python. So far I did a basic course and I’m in the middle of learning a little bit of Python GUI. Still have a ways to go, but I’m getting the hang of it.

I’m also getting into InfoSec (Information Security). Starting with CompTIA Security+. And then hopefully soon after that, CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker) and SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner). Although the SSCP has an additional requirement of having one year experience in a security related job. So I hope to take the Security+ exam soon within the month or so.

And in December, I bought a used Dell T5810 Workstation. I upgraded the RAM to 128GB, swapped in a WD Blue 500GB SSD, and reused my GeForce GTX 1060 and my old serverhat/Gamerhat has the GeForce GTX 960. I ordered it with a Xeon E5-2650 v3. And I moved the extra hard drives, again from the old serverhat, to this workstation and set it up as a 2TB RAID.

I’m using the workstation as a homelab. So far it’s running two pihole DNS servers, a Minecraft server, an Appache HTTP server, a SFTP server, and a database server. And it still has plenty of room to spare for many more. All thanks to the wonderful VirtualBox.

That’s it for now, but I’ll try to remember to put updates here more often.

I write about technology and programming.
